Sambucus nigra, or European Elderberry, is a tall tree-like shrub native to Europe, Asia and North Africa and naturalised in the United States. Elderberries and flowers have a long history of use in traditional complimentary health. The berries are black or very dark blue, and have a sharp, sweet flavour.
