It’s safe to say that 2020 has not been the best year for a number of reasons (that we won’t get into!). So, let’s put that behind us and start 2021 with a bang. We have teamed up with our friends at Auro to provide some top tips and tricks to help us smash our 2021 fitness goals. Here are the 5 things you need to do to have an amazing 2021:
1. Get a training plan
Research suggests that you are two times as likely to reach your goals if you train with a structured plan. Getting into a routine can be tricky at first, but once you are in one you will find that chores turn into habits and you will be much more likely to stay on track.

2. Avoid pushing yourself too hard
2020 has been an entire year of lockdowns, gyms closing and a lack of toilet roll. So, be kind to yourself and cut yourself some slack. If you need to take a rest day, go ahead.
Don’t punish yourself for what you don’t do, and instead start praising yourself for what you did do. 3. Integrate exercise naturally

Get off a stop early on the bus or tube and walk the rest of the way or get away from your desk and take a brisk 15-minute walk during lunch. This way you can incorporate movement into your daily life and make lasting changes without burning out.
4. Set input goals, not output goals
Instead of saying ‘I’d like to do 20 push-ups in a row’, put it into practice by saying instead ‘I’ll wake up and exercise on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 7AM, for a minimum of 20 minutes’. Input goals allow you to explain exactly how you will achieve your goals, instead of stating the final target. With input goals, there’s no pressure placed on the outcome, because for most people habits are what really get you the best results.
5. Don't be a lone wolf
Starting a new exercise routine doesn’t have to be a lonely journey. Yes, it can be really frustrating when you order a salad whilst your friend tucks into a burger right in front of you. But there are many ways to make your journey feel less isolating and more enjoyable. For example, you could work out with your friends or a family member, or join an exercise class at the gym. You can even join online communities such as Auro’s Facebook Community group and meet like-minded people just like you! At the end of the day, your fitness journey should feel enjoyable and liberating! You are learning more about yourself every day and becoming a healthier, happier you.
